video Scavenger hunt

In order to be a 21st century teacher, the teachers have to evolve their teaching and lessons to keep their students, who have grown up using iPads, computers, etc., interested in learning in class. Using videos is one example of a limitless resource that has proven to be successful in class.

Discovery Education

Discovery Education is a great platform to learn about all different sorts of topics for any grade. Along with the informative videos, they also have interactive activities teachers can use in their class. In honor of black history month, I chose this "CelebrateWithDE" video collection which has several videos and activities that teach students about historic figures that influenced the movement and an interview with Barrack Obama about teaching a social reconstruction ideology in schools today.

Big Think

Big think had a wide variety of topics that were talked about from famous educators and others, similar to Tedtalks. The titles are very attention grabbing and I found myself wanting to watch several of them. I chose the video by Tim Ferriss who talked about his tips to help avoid procrastination. Having had a problem with this for years myself it was interesting to hear his ways of staying on task. I would certainly like to share this in my class with older students who may be beginning to have trouble with being productive.

The futures channel

aquarium maker.jfif

The futures channel focuses a little on careers and having people from different jobs share projects and ideas that relate to a certain job. In the video I chose, "Aquarium Makers", Nic Tiemens and Joe Pineda share the process of building aquariums to meet the needs of the water-life creatures and the owners of the establishment. They use math and science, as well as art and design to teach students about their job. I could see myself using this in an art class to teach about functional art or about 3d shapes and dimension.

Teacher Tube

As a future teacher, I could see using this to help form my lesson plans. I don't know if I would suggest this platform for students of all ages to use on their own. I could see a benefit in the science and math department, as there are descriptive videos that could help student with their homework or allow them to further understand a subject. The video I chose describes safety methods with lab equipment in a science lab. Knowing the proper way to use tools and equipment can be important in any class like science and even art when using foreign objects. This video could help prevent students from incorrectly using materials and from making messes.

Youtube

YouTube is a service used by millions. Teachers have found use for it in the classroom, showing videos from other teachers and from people who can share information and personal insight that only they could know. The video I chose explains the history of the renaissance and the historic art from that time. I like these short explanation videos because it keeps the attention of the viewer and gets the information across.
