Online Learning using TED-ED

I chose TedEd because I think using video representation is very important to use in the classroom. Some students learn best from having visual and auditory aids to share the information in the lesson and the way TedEd sets up their website also makes it very user friendly for educators and students. I also like how not all of these people are necessarily experts and we can see the viewpoints from real people and get views from all different people

I mostly would use this Ted talk for my own benefit, the teacher talks about how to have hard conversations about race and discrimination with her students. However, I could likely have 6th-12th graders watch the TedTalk and complete discussion and questions using the template the website provides for the students to fill out and learn about online. I would use this as a base for discussion after the students would've been used to the content after doing the lesson.

Sarah Rosenthal "What is Abstract Art"

I would use this lesson to introduce the concept of abstract art to my students. I like the video as it shows visual examples of art that is considered abstract, and the voiceover tells us the basic concept of what qualities make it abstract using stories and examples. I could also use the TedEd platform to create discussion boards and slides that I could use in my classroom with my students. The lesson also includes a historical aspect that teaches students about famous artists who specialized in Abstract.

As an art teacher one of the main learning goals is to teach the students about the seven elements of art. For younger students these concepts can be especially hard to grasp because they don't always know about the technique that professional artists use in their work. Using a simple video like the one in the Ted Ed lesson, the students will have a short explanation that will simplify this common technique. This particular video teaches the students about value and how other artists use it to add dimension to their work.
